FAMED ECHO INSTALLATION ADDED TO OLYMPIC SCULPTURE PARK
Forty-six feet from chin to scalp, this creation of resin, steel and marble will be gazing across the Seattle waterfront from her new perch near Pier 70. The sculpture is the image of a young Barcelona girl created by Jaume Plensa. “Echo” originally took in sights of Madison Square Park in 2011. That, we are sure, must have been traumatizing for her. We are so glad Barney A. Ebsworth has generously donated “Echo” to the Seattle Art Museum (SAM) and she will find a much more comfortable and scenic home in the Olympic Sculpture Park. Echo is just one of Plensa’s 30 plus sculptures displayed in public places.
To learn more about “Echo” and her creator, Jaume Plensa, follow these links.

SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY
In 2004, renowned architect Rem Koolhaas introduced us to his remarkable creation, Seattle Public Library’s Central Library building. The 11-story landmark, glass and steel monument to erudition can hold about 1.5 million books and study materials and over 400 computers, available for public use. What many people don’t realize is that the Central Library, as well as branches, maintains an active calendar of learning events. These events can help you learn a new language or help you master English, if you are a recent arrival. Meet authors, learn to appreciate poetry, master your computer, or get one-on-one help with technical devices. The Central Library maintains a steady schedule of year-round events. Many are held at lunchtime, after work and on weekends, making them perfect for working people. Do you want to learn how to write a better resume? Are you interested in early Seattle architectural history? Would you like help preparing for citizenship? It’s all there, at the library, and it’s all free. And, we’ll bet you didn’t know this: if you hold a Seattle Public Library card, you can not only check out books… you can check out a MUSEUM! The Museum Pass allows you to use your Seattle Public Library card to reserve and print out an admission pass to participating Seattle museums at no charge. Participating museums are: The Burke Museum, The Center for Wooden Boats, EMP Museum, Henry Art Gallery, The Log House Museum, Nordic Heritage Museum, Northwest African American Museum and Wing Luke Museum. OPENING DAY: May 3, 2014
Music, movies and a popular 60s era TV show have mythologized the famed cross-country Highway Route 66. Also known as the Will Rogers Highway and Main Street of America, Route 66 was officially established in1926. It originally ran from Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, landing at Santa Monica, California, a total of 2,448 miles. “It’s a road so quintessentially American that it has become a permanent part of our cultural memory,” notes the Lemay American Car Museum, as they announced their newest exhibit “Route 66: Dream of the Mother Road,” on May 3, 2014.
If you’re a car lover, travel buff or road-trip junkie, this could be a great day-off or weekend activity. The Lemay American Car Museum is located at 2702 East D. St., Tacoma, WA 98421 (right off that other colorful route “I-5”). Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.

This is a good thing!
I’ll bet when we say, “Name a blues town,” you think of Chicago, Memphis, New Orleans, or maybe, even New York City.
I’ll challenge any blues lover to expand their ideas of what makes a good blues town and look a little closer to home! What caught our attention was a web spotting of the North Bend Blues Walk happening in late April in the little town on the way to the Mountain. That prompted a further search, and low and behold, what turned up was a full-on, year-round calendar of local blues events, blues concerts, blues joints, and even blues radio, right here in Puget Sound. When they wrote the TV theme song “The Bluest Skies You’ve Ever Seen Are In Seattle” we know they weren’t lauding the cloud cover… it was the music they were talking about. So if any of you are curious about blues to-dos in Puget Sound, let us point you to a few places where you can get the both the down-low and the lowdown on the blues.
